VICDOC Autumn 2025 - Magazine - Page 46
This year’s nominations are
now open, with a deadline
of 16 March 2025.
AMA Victoria encourages
members to submit names
of medical women whose
work has had a lasting impact
on medicine and the
broader community.
CONTINUING TO HONOUR WOMEN IN MEDICINE
-
While the Name A Place Drive has formally
concluded, the work of recognising women
in medicine continues. AMA Victoria
continues to advocate for the visibility
of female medical professionals through
various initiatives, including nominations
for the Victorian Honour Roll of Women.
The Honour Roll is an important
opportunity to ensure that the legacy
of women in medicine is formally
acknowledged at the state level. Past
inductees have included Professor
Helena Teede, Dr Christine Tippett,
and Professor Danielle Mazza, each of
whom has made significant contributions
to Australian healthcare.

A COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY
TO REMEMBER AND INSPIRE
-
The impact of medical women throughout
history extends beyond their own time – it
continues to shape healthcare today. Yet,
recognition has not always followed their
achievements. Ensuring that their names
and contributions are visible is not just
about the past; it is about reinforcing whose
work we choose to value and learn from.
Through initiatives like Name A Place
and the Victorian Honour Roll of Women,
AMA Victoria is ensuring that these
trailblazers are woven into public memory.
Their legacies should not remain confined
to professional circles - they should be
reflected in the places where history is
recorded and celebrated.
The responsibility now lies with us to
carry this work forward. By acknowledging
those who changed medicine, we
strengthen the foundation for those who
will define its future.
